Easter Brunch is at my place this year. It has been hinted that the house should be “decorated for Easter”. Decorated for Easter? What? Huh?

Is there such a thing?

So today we ventured into the local Michael’s to look around. It turns out I was right. Not a lot of Easter decor. A lot of little things like for a table… So I am actually at a loss. What the hell do I do? I bought some fake red daisies for the table since I loved the real ones, but I can’t just keep buying fresh flowers. The cats might eat ‘em, plus maintaining them can get expensive. Those are kinda just for everyday tho. I also got some fake tulips. The tulips really say “spring” and they had red, so they totally match my decor. I put those into a glass pitcher on top of the bar. Now for the actual brunch I bought three traditional Easter baskets. I figure it’d be cute to do breakfast pastries and muffins in those.. The last thing I figured I’d get, and I don’t even know if it exists, is a large paper mache or plaster type rabbit. Something at least knee high for next to the fireplace. I think that will be impossible. But plan B would be fresh Easter lilies by the fireplace. We were going to get some anyways, it’d just be one or two more. We’d just have to put them outside right afterwards… I also think we should have hard boiled eggs on-hand and we could dye them, but that might be too over the top. No one in attendance is going to be age six. In fact, yeah, bad idea.

Anyhoo. I’ll have to remember to photograph the whole affair. If I pull off “decorated for Easter” I will want to record it for the internets..

And so I was chatting online with a good friend tonight about how I was trying to enjoy my holiday decor, you know.. post holiday, now that I have time. I have been having a really hard time with that! It all made perfect sense when he pointed out that every time I looked at it now that we are past Christmas, it just reminds me that I have to take it down. Shit. You know what?

He’s totally right. It is making me go a little crazy.

I have to take all that shit down. Heh. That tree has easily 2 times as many ornaments as last time. Not only that, but we like these ones, and they are fragile! They have to be packed carefully and junk. By me. Richard has to work.. Again. Although last year my state of mind was a bit different, the pressure is still there. I just wish I had the same adrenaline! Okay, not really. But I have decided that tomorrow is the big day. As nice as it sounded, leaving it up for an extra week for some party, the fact remains that time gets limited again, and I don’t want this chore to do on one of my only 2 days off! Right? So it has to be done. Before the New Year. Tomorrow.

I have to get pumped. I have to get in the right state of mind. Hell, I want help!! Anyone? I’ll serve cocktails....

I do! I think I do!

I have decided to try to put up Christmas here at the house. I have been off all day. The place is pretty clean. I think I am gonna do it. I even called Richard at work to be sure he won’t get mad if I do it when he’s not home. Heh. His exact words were ‘Hell no! You go get yourself all busy with that. Why would I mind?’

So it’s six o’clock now. Let’s see how fast I can do this! Cue music!

UPDATE: Seven o’clock has arrived. We have changed out the fall wreath on the door, placed poinsettias, the tree is standing and all the lights work (phew!), and it is 90 percent fluffed. Still a ways to go! Break time though. Food and such. Mmmm.

UPDATE: Eight o’clock. The tree is close to being done. I am now deciding to add the poinsettia garland or 100 more little red and gold balls. Gah! Still need to vacuum and dig into the other holiday accessories.

Why does it take one day for the city to put up Christmas decorations on the street, and 3 weeks to take it down?
Enough already! get rid of it!
