Easter Brunch
o.c.d.what's up?

Easter Brunch is at my place this year. It has been hinted that the house should be “decorated for Easter”. Decorated for Easter? What? Huh?

Is there such a thing?

So today we ventured into the local Michael’s to look around. It turns out I was right. Not a lot of Easter decor. A lot of little things like for a table… So I am actually at a loss. What the hell do I do? I bought some fake red daisies for the table since I loved the real ones, but I can’t just keep buying fresh flowers. The cats might eat ‘em, plus maintaining them can get expensive. Those are kinda just for everyday tho. I also got some fake tulips. The tulips really say “spring” and they had red, so they totally match my decor. I put those into a glass pitcher on top of the bar. Now for the actual brunch I bought three traditional Easter baskets. I figure it’d be cute to do breakfast pastries and muffins in those.. The last thing I figured I’d get, and I don’t even know if it exists, is a large paper mache or plaster type rabbit. Something at least knee high for next to the fireplace. I think that will be impossible. But plan B would be fresh Easter lilies by the fireplace. We were going to get some anyways, it’d just be one or two more. We’d just have to put them outside right afterwards… I also think we should have hard boiled eggs on-hand and we could dye them, but that might be too over the top. No one in attendance is going to be age six. In fact, yeah, bad idea.

Anyhoo. I’ll have to remember to photograph the whole affair. If I pull off “decorated for Easter” I will want to record it for the internets..

Dear Internets*
blogging

Due to popular demand, and after much code tweaking (I am sure nothing validates), in-line commenting is back. Now where is my gawd damn drink?

*And by ‘internets’ I mean Brian.

My BFF’s B’day Bash
what's up?

Everyone, I want you all to join in. I mean it!

“Happy Birthday to you… Happy Birthday to you..  Haaappy Birthday Dear Freeeeeeeddddddddddd.” Happy Birthday to you and junk. I mean it.

I was a bit taken tonight when it struck me that all the people around me that I loved and hung out with pretty regularly I had met because of one man. Fred. It was a long time ago that we had met. I had blogged about my potential move to San Diego. Fred contacted me thru the IM or as we Mac folk call it, iChat. I was a bit shocked as I was new to IM’ing at the time… But he persisted and I soon had one of my first online friends. It was great having someone in San Diego to chat with as I moved my whole life here. I had a local friend. Sure we hadn’t met, but that’s the beauty of the internets. We didn’t need to. We had bonded. Time passed and soon we met in real life at a local Chevy’s. We hit it off in person, as we knew we would, but meeting internet people is always weird. You never know. Luckily it worked out. Fred has been a great friend. He has introduced us into his circle. We have gained not just friends, but family thru him. I consider Fred family.

Anyhoo. I just wanted to document the day.
Happy birthday yo. You rock! Thank you for letting me and my man into your life. We appreciate you more than you know.

Holiday Meme
meme? me?

Our good friend Mike scoped this one out for us. There will be NO tagging. Don’t even worry. It does provide good blog fodder tho. FYI. Here we go:

Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper. Unless of course the gift is a bottle of wine, or of an odd size that can’t be boxed and wrapped properly.

Real tree or Artificial?
Come on.. You want all my secrets? Artificial and pre-lit. If I do a real tree the lighting process of wrapping each branch (OCD) with lights becomes such an ordeal. Not to mention removing them. Once I tossed the tree out lights and all. Artificial is just better for the sanity of all involved.

When do you put up the tree?
First week of December. The cards go out that week too. With my job if I wait it won’t get done.

When do you take the tree down?
Normally, December 26th. Although my mom and I had been known to do it Christmas day back when I lived at home… This year we have the post holiday gig, so it’ll be up an extra week. *cringe*

Do you like eggnog?
Only when thinned with booze.

Favorite gift received as a child?
My most favorite gift as a child was actually at Easter. I wanted baby chickens, and my parents found these fake ones that were so cute… As an adult it was my iPod. Heh. Both times.

Do you have a nativity scene?
Erm. No.

Hardest person to buy for?
We don’t really ‘do’ gifts. Richard and I do purchases for *us* yearly, like this year we bought the bedroom set. That was like all the gifts all year. We don’t buy a gift for anything. And with my folks, well, yeah. No gifts.

Easiest person to buy for?
See above.

Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail. Hello! The dp.com card exchange is renowned on the internets.

Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
A slip of paper stating ‘this certificate good for _____ signed Santa.’ WTF?

Favorite Christmas Movie?
A Christmas Story. It just rocks. That leg lamp? OMG.

Least Favorite?
The Sound Of Music. Is that even Christmas? That thing gives me gas.

When do you start shopping for Christmas?
There’s no shopping.

Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
You have to sometimes with the ‘hostess gifts’.

Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Booze.

Clear lights or colored on the tree?
Clear. Is this really a question?

Favorite Christmas song?
I find them all mind numbing. I work retail. I think *because* of that the new ones, the alternative artists are better for me.

Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Neither. Retail. Is ‘stay at work’ an option here?

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Fuck no. Is it January yet? Where’s my drink?

Angel on the tree top or a star?
Neither. See Flickr.

Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
My mom and I were on the side of Eve, back in the day. Now there are no gifts. Who cares?

Most annoying thing about this time of year?
The public and their selfish and self important attitudes.

Favorite ornament theme or color?
Red.

Favorite for Christmas dinner?
Is there a dinner? We were always brunch people.

Least Favorite?
Huh? Dinner? See above yo.

What do you want for Christmas this year?
Lottery winnings. Sadly tho, you have to play to win.

She’s Got Mad Skillz Yo…
what's up?

So tonight I met the famous internet sensation Joelle of Tenth Muse and Moxie Design Studios. Can I just tell you how awesome she is? Like, when you read the blog and think “oh, she seems really cool” like you need to multiply that by at least ten to get the accurate cool ratio going on. Srsly. We gabbed a lot about our mutual love, the internets. We drank fancy beverages like wine, or a mandarin squish. She sang. (We were at karaoke at The Lamplighter, so that was like normal..) Anyhoo, long story, lots happened. Creepy Turkish Stalker Guy, etc. Details to follow, I am sure. I just wanted to get the recording online. Yes, I recorded.

Here’s the thing about that… Listeners to the dp.com podcast thing know that I cannot use the new iPod to record in the car. Weird. I also cannot use it to record in the chair in the bedroom. Tonight I found that I really cannot record inside of The Lamplighter either. What do all of these areas have in common? Speakers. So I have a recording of Joelle singing an amazing song, sounding perfect. The recording however, sucks. I have decided that speakers are bad with my recoding set up. Duh, right? But if you can get past the noise of it you can hear Joelle pretty well… The crowd really did go wild!

There were other great singers there too, including our own Amy. Then there were the ones with a lot of ‘personality’ and ‘presentation’ like the guy with the feather boa. I think I might become a karaoke groupie! wink

Hesitate
bloggingwhat's up?

One of the things about people you actually know reading the blog is the habit to edit what you want to say. I hate that. That is the number one reason that my family is not invited! Sorry mom and dad.. [My tone seems off, am I editing myself? Putting on an air? It’s so hard to tell. I think I am an air.] Where was I? I had to stop and use the restroom.. Oh, so yeah. It puts a different feel to the whole ‘blogging’ thing when it is very possible to have someone call and be like, “...oh, and I read your blog today.”, or worse, “was that thing you wrote about me?”. Yikes! Right? I am lucky that Richard rarely reads my blog. I mean, he’ll visit every day, but if he sees more that like a short paragraph he glazes over and clicks through. He say’s it’s cause he knows me so well, or lived through it and doesn’t need to read about it. Heh. Cute.

Anyway, I guess I should get to the point. The whole reason I started this whole mess is because I totally had something I wanted to blog, but feel uncomfortable writing about because of my readers… I should just get it out there right? Put in on the front porch? It’s not any big ol’ drama… Nothing bad or anything. But if I am going to wear my “I’m blogging this” tee with any kind of clout behind it I need to get over my damn self and blog it!

Right?

So yeah. I was on the Google today. I like the Google. I get lots of visitors from the Google (Hi!), and I like to see why they found me, so I will click through from my stats to the actual Google search they made to see where I rank. Google makes me happy. But something possessed me to start Googling others. I know! How rude, right? Who am I to go around Googling people? Especially people I know! It can be surprising, yet really weird. (It pleases me tho that dp.com was in the first page or two...for some of you.) But I am still stalling. Stall. Stall. Stall. I guess what I am saying is…

I Googled. Nice to meet you. Your life on the internets is wildly different than mine. But similar in small ways. I’d love to chat about that someday. But not right now cause like I am gonna pretend you never read this.

The Most Popular Meat; Podcast #34
it's a podcast!

Okay. I did a podcast. It sucked because my podcast mojo has left me. Damn. Anyway. I try to make up for it with amazing show notes. I mean look at these! You don’t even have to listen to the podcast thingie!

Aunt Barbara intro. I hope she don’t mind…
Why I haven’t podcasted in a while, a poor excuse.
Working out.
Doing chores instead of working out.
Some false modesty.
Cream of chicken cooking…
Amy arrives, and apparently smokes less. Oh, and she killed animals as a child.
Amy kills my ‘podcasting mojo’.
I am not interesting.
The American Idol party is coming soon! Blake!
I talk aboot kids and stress.
My social life update… I am interesting!
Gay people judge.
I love on the Internets.
The podcast drinking game.
I hate editing.
Issues talking about the past.
I get crafty gay.
There are hotties at my gym.
I sneeze.

You On The ‘Net?
lunchtime poll

As you all know danielphillip.tv has just begun. A new URL, new technologies for me to play with, and possibly new gadgets. To me it’s a lot of fun! I enjoyed installing the video player. I had a lot of fun editing and converting the video itself. Sure recording is awkward, but I am feeling pretty good about that too, I just need to be careful with the lighting.. heheh. It may be that I just shed some extra pounds and feel like myself again. A bit more out going. Who knows. But I have been getting feedback about how ‘brave’ I am to do it. I don’t feel brave. But now I am curious. Would you do it? Record yourself and put it on the internets, or have you before? Am I crazy??
