It’s my new favorite song. Why can’t I just be happy with Madonna??

I gotta say, I haven’t wanted to admit this… Not even with myself. I love Madonna. I have always loved Madonna. Since day one. Literally. But there are some things lately that totally bug me. It started on the Confessions album a bit.. Now it’s worse.
The first thing that got me was that hook in the lyrics. Tick tock. She’s done it twice now. It’s totally catchy. We love it! But, Madonna ticked and tocked on Hung Up. Now she’s tick tocking on 4 Minutes. Now I don’t know who was actually first ever to use that phrase in a song, but in my recent experience I feel I can more than safely say it was not Madonna. It was Gwen. What You Waiting For in 2004 was the first song I remember tick tocking going on. I could be wrong tho, right? Did Madge “tick tock” somewhere first? Before her 2005 Hung Up? Then there is that stopwatch on the launch site of the latest video? A bit “Alice in Wonderland” don’t ya think? Where else have we seen that theme lately. Hmmm. Oh wait! Here! Gwen again? Wow… Gwen must be so flattered!
Speaking of the video for 4 Minutes, anyone notice that snazzy dance bit on the grocery store checkout belts? Looked kinda familiar, no? Think for a minute… Not an exact copy like the Tick Tock, but really inspired by Ok Go?
I don’t know. It’s not awful. She’s trend right. I still love all her new stuff. I bought and enjoyed Confessions, and I totally pre-ordered Hard Candy. I just feel let down. I can remember when, for a long time actually, that Madonna was the one to copy. The one others found inspiration in. Maybe she’s come full circle? And since when is a new Madonna single on a shampoo commercial BEFORE the album even comes out? What? Ugh.
But I tell ya, if Madonna has Harajuku girls hanging out with her for her next album I think I will be done.

So I was chatting with a new online friend of mine tonight. His name is Daniel. That is sucha great name! I love that name. So strong and sexy, that name. Oh, what? Yes! It is my name too! How convenient! Here I know this whole new person really, and I don’t even have to learn a new name! I love that!
But where was I goin’ with this? There was a point, I swear! Oh! So, yeah! So I went to his MySpace (ew, MySpace. I know. My eyes!). His is totally tasteful tho. It’s like a brownish gray with nothing blinkie and only one auto-starting song. And it’s not a bad song. See? He’s good people! But anyhoo, he has this Madonna clip of the newest concert version of Like a Virgin. It is actually more than that but it starts on Like a Virgin. All I can think of when I see that clip is MY favorite version of that song performed live....
But then I feel old. I remember listening to this song brand new on the radio way long ago, and don’t you dare say how long. I remember the controversy. My mother’s reaction. The original video. Wow. The newer version does nothing for me. Other than make me feel old.

Times sure have changed.
You all know I am a Madonna queen. I go waaay back. Further than I care to admit. I remember staying up late, after bedtime, with my clock radio pressed against my ear to hear her latest song premier on radio. RADIO. I think it was Material Girl then. She had not only video premiers, but RADIO premiers. So fucking fabulous. I knew that she was fabulous back when I was like 12.
Anyhoo. So, yeah. I was talking about today. I now have Justify My Love, THE VIDEO, in my iPod. I dunno if you remember or not. Justify My Love was a ‘go to the store and buy the video on VHS only’ due to ‘adult content’. I did go and buy it. I still have that tape, and one last machine that can play it. But now thanks to YouTube (and some other tech secrets) I now have that naughty video in my iPod Classic.
I love that.
