Oh look! I DO have a blog!
How is life? Mine, well, pretty good actually. My parents just left Saturday after a fun 7 day visit. Yes, I did say fun. My parents are young for my age as well as young for their ages (it makes sense, think about it). So we were on the go every day. I woke up early, well early for me, every day and took them on an adventure!
Saturday, after fetching them from the San Diego Airport we stopped off at C Level to toast their arrival and enjoy the view. Sunday we headed off to Old Town, where to my surprise there was an Art Festival! We looked at everything. After we were done there, Mom insisted on a trip to the Swap Meet. Ew… we capped off the day with dinner at the Turf Supper Club. Awesome place! What better way to follow up a meal in a dive than a trip to the shishy-est sky bar Altitude?? Monday was all about rest and a home cooked (by me!) meal. Tuesday we did the Geocaching with dad, since it was Richard’s day off. Plus, we wanted to try it with our iPhones. It works! So now we have a log in at the site and 7 caches under our belt. LOL. Obviously Mom had other plans, and was off for a Shopping Day with one of our friends. Later we de-parented at the big SDTweet-Up (#sdtweetup). That was, as always an amazing time! Wednesday my folks and I were off to Temecula Valley Wine Country for a day of tasting and scenery. Fantastic! Thursday was more Geocaching around town. That Geocaching is a great way to see some great sights you wouldn’t otherwise… That night I was pooped so Dad manned the grill and we dined out on the patio at home. Friday was when I finally had to sleep in! Well, till 9:30.. we lazed at the house till Richard got home. He had ditched work early so we shopped and hit up Bing Crosby’s Piano Lounge until it was time for the crowning jewel of the visit: dinner at Kous Kous. My folks got to eat well (very well! you MUST go to Kous Kous!) and meet up with our friends and generally have a great night out. Although we had drinks first at Martinis Above 4th, where the owner stressed me out when he KISSED Richard hello in front of my father. That’s when my father realized we had taken him to a GAY bar. OMG OMG OMG. He never would have known otherwise… Oh well. No harm was done. All was erased by the amazing food at Kous Kous!
As for Saturday… Well that was for packing and the Airport. Buh-bye!
You know what?

Clearly I am a domestic goddess. Well, god actually. Either way, I have done grocery shopping, I have laundry going, and I just took a cake out of the oven. In just a bit I will be making dinner. I rock! I also called my mom, but she didn’t answer. I am all family-domestic today!
Just so you know, it is a low sugar cake that I am trying out. I have found that the most effective weight loss trick for me was to cut out sugar, so I am looking to find ways to have all the normal things I like in a low sugar form. Sheesh! I sound like I have one hell of a sweet tooth. I don’t actually, but I enjoy baking things and having dessert on occasion. Most of my sugar was in the red wine I love so much… and the types of packaged foods I brought for lunch (you’d think yogurt was harmless...) So anyhoo, whatever it takes. I was up to a 40 inch waist on my pants and now I am almost ready to explore the world of 36. I think I can handle no/low sugar along with my usual low fat.
Okay, I gotta create a meal. Richard isn’t home yet, but I don’t wanna eat too late. Besides, we’ve been arguing all day anyway. I can eat on my own.

So you know what I miss? Chocolate milk. I used to looove some chocolate milk. We used the Nestle Quick. Remember when you first started to make your own? One spoonful would miss the glass? Then as you got older and “wiser” you added an extra spoonful of the chocolate powder, but then it never dissolved right and was this sweet drink with clumps of that dry powder? My mom would bitch at me when I did that… Sometimes my brother and I would compete and see how much we could dissolve in one glass. I always won. He actually preferred the strawberry flavor for his milk. Sometimes I would actually just put a spoonful linto my mouth and eat it. I was weird, because I did that little spoonful trick as a teenager.
Anyway, so yesterday Richard stumbled upon a container of Quick in the cupboard. He asked when I was ever gonna use it. Tonight seemed like a good time. I made us each a tall glass. I followed the instructions and used 2 tablespoons, but then I smiled to myself and gave each glass an extra spoonful. Heh. For old times sake.
What’s your food memory? Do you have one, or am I weird?

New Year’s Eve was pretty low key for us. I was still pretty out of it with this cold/flu thing I got going on, but better. So we planned on the usual festivities. Chinese food and champagne. While Richard was out getting the food (It turned out to be soooo good! China Max!) I called my mom. Somehow it helps to talk to mom if I am not feeling well. I know, I am a baby when I am sick. But I have been housebound for like 3 days with this! Anyhoo, Richard finally got back and I was starving! Finally ready for some solid food! So we pigged out and watched movies. I had rented (do you call it renting when you don’t leave the house?) 1408 and Transformers. I enjoyed both, but I have to admit Transformers was mostly cool for the effects. Then it was time for the Ryan and Dick ball dropping. As soon as 2008 rolled in my bubbly and cold meds combo had put me to bed. Fancy night, eh? But it was cool to wake up to 2 New Years greetings from Canada in my voicemail. I love that my social circle is on an international level.
So I really wanted to write one of those deep, joy and pain New Year posts. But I can’t. 2007 has just been pretty solid. I have maintained my relationship with my amazing man. We still live in the same place, that we love. We have the same jobs. We have some terrific friends that have become like family, and gained some new friends along the way. All in all it has been a great year. I head into 2008 feeling very hopeful and happy. Happy New Year, and may 2008 bring you something great!

So now that my blog might be outed (thanks hon!) and my mother could very well become a daily reader I figured today was a good a day as any to introduce my new knitting forum. It’s called Yernin’ Fer Yarn.
Okay I kid. My mother does not knit. But she could be joining us here at dp.com very soon. I am officially as blog-outed as I can be without direct links going out in email. What if it happens? What if mom does become a regular reader? Hell. I think I am filtering now… wait till that day comes. Would I block her? Could I? Do I have to? I am not really offensive. I am out of the closet. No surprises there. Sure there are a few things I’d rather not have her (or my father) know about my life, but done is done. What could it hurt? So I have sex. So I lied as a kid. So I partied a bit heavily in my youth. So I almost dated a drug dealer. So I said that my parents splash water when they wash their hands. I really have nothing that I am ashamed of here. I just don’t want yet an other ‘known’ audience member to write for. I cannot picture myself publishing some of the things that I do knowing my MOTHER might read it. Part of me would want to delete my whole online existence. Part of me says SCREW THAT! I have put a lot into this for the last 4 (FOUR!!!) years. What the hell? I could block their IP addresses if they come. But that seems extreme. It’s my family.
I hate that I have to even consider this. OMG. The problems caused by one stupidly created email.

I just spent 5 minutes playing peek-a-boo with the cat. Is that wrong? And does posting this make me just that much closer to becoming a ‘cat blogger’? Sigh. It does, doesn’t it? Gah! Well there you go. I can’t really ignore them. They are obnoxious. Right now they are fighting over a chair. The tactics used are pretty funny. One squeezes in where there is no room and spreads out. The other starts licking, kissing, or cleaning and follows with a chomp on the ear. Now that’s love right there, the chomp. Nice!
So I am restless tonight. Can you tell? Yeah. I am listening to a podcast and late night snacking. I think I am tense. I have buyers remorse! ‘What did you buy?’ you ask… Well let me tell you…
It all started earlier today when I was informed that my PTO request was GRANTED! I will be on vacation from June 25 through July 5th! I am so excited because as you know me and my man celebrate our anniversary on the Fourth of July! (Because that’s when I first went to his place and never left...) This year is a big one too. TEN YEARS. Gawd I feel old. Anyhoo, we bought tickets to Florida! And reserved a convertible! Odd choice for a car as the Florida weather will be questionable then as far as the afternoon rain, but it was the same price as the not converting number. Besides we will be staying for the most part with mom and dad, so that’s like saving money right? Anyway. I am so excited for Richard to experience the joy of the 8 hours of travel, the humidity, and the charm of my parent’s small adopted home town that censors Cosmo in the grocery.

Poor mom. Take her to brunch if she lives near you. My mother is on the other side of the country. I miss that crazy gal!

I missed my mother’s birthday. I feel just awful. You see, I had arranged for a flower delivery for yesterday. I was waiting all morning for my surprised mother to call and tell me how excited she was. She never called. I figured maybe she was at work during the delivery. When she gets home she’ll call. Um. Nope. No call. Strange, but I was at work myself so I got busy and forgot. It was when I got home that I got the message on my answering machine. Not my mother, as I had expected. It was the customer service center from 1-800-Flowers telling me that they were unable to deliver. No reason, no excuse. Just “Sorry we were unable to deliver. Would you like us to deliver tomorrow or cancel.” WTF? Well, being that we have now missed the birthday, the flowers were MORE important! Shit! I hadn’t even sent a card, cause I knew I was sending flowers.
The next message was from some other guy at 1-800-Flowers asking me to call him at once. I did, and there was a bit more sincerity as he apologized. But still. The day is over. You missed it. You suck! But the delivery should happen tomorrow, and apparently there will be some note letting my mom know that it was their fault that the order was late. Beh.
I called mom next to explain what happened. Sure, it ruins the surprise, but my father had sent a nasty email because she had thought we all forgot her birthday! Yep! She just thinks I forgot, and sent them THAT DAY. They better remember to put that damn note on there.... I feel awful!
And here we are the next day. What is it, 2:30 in Florida? She hasn’t called to tell me she got them yet… Next time I think I’ll use FTD. It is FTD right? Or is that the feminine spray? Hmm. I should Google.
