what's up?
So I decided this year I’d do the Wreath Auction at Martini’s Above Fourth as damage control. You see, last year Richard went solo, with friends, and actually bought a wreath. For a lot of money. Like a lot. The wreath, while pretty, matches NONE of our existing holiday decor. It was very expensive. OMG I HATE IT!!!
So, anyhoo. This year we went together. It was fun. There were the muscle boys in sleep bottoms, sans shirts, AKA Wreath Models. The wreaths were.. interesting. There was lots of booze. But I gotta say, after hearing about last year, I was disappointed. First and for-most, the wreath models were being abused by this snatch-y queen in an untucked dress shirt and tie. Gross. She was also abusive to the guests. Secondly the wreaths, while impressive, were nothing like the one Richard bought last year that I love to hate. In fact there was only one that compared, and the price immediately soared out of reach, yet 90 percent of them went for chump change!
I was amazed tho, as to the holiday spirit we encountered. There was a man sitting close-by. He was bidding on everything. He had already won a lot of wreaths. He gave our friend 100 dollars to put towards her wreaths if she won any. She didn’t, but the thought behind it meant a lot. Richard bought him a drink or two.
Later we were famished and ditched the auction and went to Urban Mo’s for real food. It was too much fun and after too many drinks, a 7 ft. tall drag queen, and meeting some gay neighbors from a block away, we called it a night. Good night moon!

what's up?
[Okay, so I took the sex poll off the top. I would still like you to go vote if you haven’t already. It’s interesting.]
So last night was Kathy Griffin. It was awesome. I really like her, which as a gay I think I am ‘supposed to’ so it’s fine. She talked about all my favorite celebs, YouTube, and the internet. All my favorite things really. I really wasn’t expecting her to be on stage as long as she was. Actually I wasn’t expecting her show to be like it was at all. I mean, when you think comedy you think like Comedy Central style, right? She was more like just a pal talking about her week. Her week was just a hell of a lot funnier than mine. What a great time! I can’t wait until she comes to town again. I am so there!!
Anyway, after the show we kinda parted ways and started heading off to our cars. 2 of our group were in the same direction and we started walking together. We didn’t stay walking together. Sometimes I think we all don’t get along. Is that weird? Anyways, last night was like that even though it was really a blast. Like I said we didn’t stay walking together. They just kept trotting along even after Richard said he needed to walk slower (he has been working like a million hours lately and is just sore). Catty remarks were made. I slowed down with Richard. Obviously we fell behind. Then we were a lot behind. Finally I was like ‘screw this’ and suggested we stay on Shelter Island while the mad rush to leave was going on. There were a lot of people out and the vibe was great. So we veered over towards a very tropical looking hotel thinking we’d have a quick drink while traffic died down. I think there is only the one way off the Island… So the hotel turned out to be a Best Western. LOL. At the bar there was an Australian gal drowning her sorrows over her fathers wedding the following day. She was there with friends, and apparently the whole family was staying there. It’s a long dramatic story… Suffice it to say, she was a bit drunk. She also seemed to like Richard and I and kept trying to buy our drinks. Then she started buying tequila shots. For the whole bar. (I had no idea at the time, but Richard may have had one or two…) It turned out to be a pretty crazy night with all that we witnessed from our new friends and their family that eventually made it to the bar. Heh. I hope they all feel okay at the wedding. Alcohol is a very dangerous drug.
Anyhoo. I had to be up for work so we left the Aussies to their night of frolic at the Best Western and headed home.

I will be safely tucked away at work tonight avoiding any shenanigans having to do with nachos and tequila. Just FYI.

mmm, alchohol...
I have no hangover. I woke up at my normal time and started my household chores like any other day off… I partied responsibly yo.
Now why I feel I needed to tell the internet that, I am not sure. Maybe it was the fact that the last post was ‘brought to you by booze’? Or was it that I just got a text message inquiring about my hungovered-ness…

what's up?
Tonight I think I discovered my new favorite place. It is called, quite simply, Martinis. I love it there. First off, there is an elevator to get up there. Fabulous, right? Especially on Girls Night (where oddly there is always only one girl, but that kinda makes sense if you know Sheila. She is loved..) so those in heels aren’t climbing stairs… It’s in the gayborhood. The decor is great, and it seems to be a great mixed crowd. The pretty people, the average, and a few of the tragic. Heh. Srsly, there was a group of people playing quarters with their martinis. Not pretty. Oh! I didn’t mention the best part about this place. The martinis! There must have been sixty different kinds.. Kinda overwhelming, but in that good way. Plus, the glasses are really enormous. I have decided I want my birthday in that place. Maybe the next one at least. And just imagine it, with my new diet there can be no cake. So obviously there will be a theme martini! I am sure they could do one that tastes like cake…

what's up?
I have to admit. I do feel bad. It is a good friend’s birthday. Well, not today actually. It was Thursday. I guess you could say it’s Birthday Week. There have been things planned everyday since Thursday. So far we have missed every one of them. Isn’t that just awful? And it’s totally unavoidable. We work retail and it is Easter week. Ain’t nobody getting a day off… no one will swap shifts either. We are closing! So we are a bit stuck.
Anyway, last night was supposed to be fabulous. Rooftop cocktails downtown or something. I really would have loved that! But then I saw this post at Fred’s, and something made me feel better. Specifically the part that says “It’s the morning after, and all I can say is, I’m never drinking again. Oy Vey!”. Perhaps better to have missed that, as I woke up bright-eyed and bushy tailed this morning… Heh!
Still, I have to say Happy Birthday Sheila. You are a treasure, and I hope Birthday Week is amazing! We’ll see you tomorrow…

what's up?
Ow. My head…
One thing I have been doing to loose weight is avoid sugar. There is a lot of sugar in booze. So, I have been avoiding booze. Well last night I was in a celebratory mood (OMG iPhone!!) so I had Richard whomp me up some Appletinis. I had 4. Four doesn’t really sound like a lot. Well, it does… but I had 2 before dinner and feasted on tacos before I had the last 2. Apparently that was more than enough to render me useless this morning. I slept poorly. I am sure due to all the sugar my body isn’t used to. My head hurts. I am dehydrated. I probably smell.
Ew.
I am missing the big breakfast with ‘the group’. Luckily no one was really expecting me for that. Everyone knows I am NOT a morning person. So now I have an hour or 2 to rebuild myself and get cute. I AM expected for shopping.

meme? me?
Our good friend Mike scoped this one out for us. There will be NO tagging. Don’t even worry. It does provide good blog fodder tho. FYI. Here we go:
Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper. Unless of course the gift is a bottle of wine, or of an odd size that can’t be boxed and wrapped properly.
Real tree or Artificial?
Come on.. You want all my secrets? Artificial and pre-lit. If I do a real tree the lighting process of wrapping each branch (OCD) with lights becomes such an ordeal. Not to mention removing them. Once I tossed the tree out lights and all. Artificial is just better for the sanity of all involved.
When do you put up the tree?
First week of December. The cards go out that week too. With my job if I wait it won’t get done.
When do you take the tree down?
Normally, December 26th. Although my mom and I had been known to do it Christmas day back when I lived at home… This year we have the post holiday gig, so it’ll be up an extra week. *cringe*
Do you like eggnog?
Only when thinned with booze.
Favorite gift received as a child?
My most favorite gift as a child was actually at Easter. I wanted baby chickens, and my parents found these fake ones that were so cute… As an adult it was my iPod. Heh. Both times.
Do you have a nativity scene?
Erm. No.
Hardest person to buy for?
We don’t really ‘do’ gifts. Richard and I do purchases for *us* yearly, like this year we bought the bedroom set. That was like all the gifts all year. We don’t buy a gift for anything. And with my folks, well, yeah. No gifts.
Easiest person to buy for?
See above.
Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail. Hello! The dp.com card exchange is renowned on the internets.
Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
A slip of paper stating ‘this certificate good for _____ signed Santa.’ WTF?
Favorite Christmas Movie?
A Christmas Story. It just rocks. That leg lamp? OMG.
Least Favorite?
The Sound Of Music. Is that even Christmas? That thing gives me gas.
When do you start shopping for Christmas?
There’s no shopping.
Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
You have to sometimes with the ‘hostess gifts’.
Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Booze.
Clear lights or colored on the tree?
Clear. Is this really a question?
Favorite Christmas song?
I find them all mind numbing. I work retail. I think *because* of that the new ones, the alternative artists are better for me.
Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Neither. Retail. Is ‘stay at work’ an option here?
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Fuck no. Is it January yet? Where’s my drink?
Angel on the tree top or a star?
Neither. See Flickr.
Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
My mom and I were on the side of Eve, back in the day. Now there are no gifts. Who cares?
Most annoying thing about this time of year?
The public and their selfish and self important attitudes.
Favorite ornament theme or color?
Red.
Favorite for Christmas dinner?
Is there a dinner? We were always brunch people.
Least Favorite?
Huh? Dinner? See above yo.
What do you want for Christmas this year?
Lottery winnings. Sadly tho, you have to play to win.

what's up?
Last night was a lot of fun. We started out at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. It is the only sky bar in San Diego, so even though the service is kinda cruddy we like it. cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were had. The server was the worst one in that bar to date. As was the bartender. He shook every drink for at least 5 minutes, and when there were no drinks to make he threw napkins at server station. All of which is in plain sight. But the view was great, and the snacks were really good. We ordered a classic cheese plate, as well as the Bavarian Sausage plate. The sausage was amazing. Slices of bratwurst with sauerkraut, a baguette and spicy mustard, mini pickles… I liked the mini pickles! Every time I bit into one Richard said “Surprise!”. You remember, as in Pickle Surprise. Dork. But I laughed every time he did it! After waiting 10 minutes for our check Richard walked over to fetch our soon to be badly tipped server. We settled up and headed out, but only after seeking out a manager. Someone had to be made aware… The most friendly and efficient service we experienced at the Manchester Grand Hyatt that night came from the parking garage cashier, employed by Ace Parking. We were sure to get his name to send compliments to his bosses. I mean, karmic balance and all… We did just rat out the skeevy staff in the bar.

Then it was off to dinner. There’s a little Mexican place downtown that I love because it was one of the first places we dined at in San Diego. It’s kinda a mix of trendy and traditional. The food is always good and they have this ‘diablo’ salsa that is spicy hot yet delicious! The service there is always great too, but they had this new bartender. She was cute enough and was quite personable. But there was something about her that Richard noticed right away. She was All About Her Titties™. You have heard of good posture making your chest appear bigger? Shoulders back, stand up straight, and all that? Well this girl had her shoulder blades pinched so tightly together I was expecting to hear bone grind. She was contorting her spine as she poured and maneuvered in the tight space behind the bar in ways that I thought would hurt her. I have to admit though, her modest tits did look great at all times. In fact they were the focus. The entire place was All About Her Titties™! Guys went out of there way to order from her! I think her co-workers had noticed what she was doing, because Richard got more than one chuckle as her imitated her extreme ‘chest out’ posture when he pointed it out to me… So anyhoo, it was dinner and a show over there. A free boobie show! Yay!
And that my friends is pretty much the evening. We (and by we I do mean me) wanted to go to the Lamplighter. By the time we got over to Hillcrest it was raining pretty good though. We decided to call it a night.
