What? Of course it’s of me. Like, duh. Also it was taken by Y. I totally have a crush on her. Shh. Don’t tell her husband. ![]()
So I just have to tell you about this… I think it is so amazingly cool! One of my humble photos from my Flickr has been selected, and made it to the final selection phase of being included in the Schmap!
Schmap’s series of digital travel guides integrates dynamic maps with useful background reading, suggested tours, photos from the traveling public and reviews by local correspondents (for sights and attractions, hotels, restaurants, bars, parks, theaters, galleries, museums and more) to profile 200 destinations throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Now keep in mind, I am no photographer. In fact I hesitate to mention what I used to even capture the selected photo. I don’t want them to see this post and decide I am unworthy. I mean really. Heh. Anyway. I have no high hopes of being selected over the real photographers and serious hobbyists of Flickr. Tis an honor to even be considered. I am thrilled beyond belief!
Oh, find my photo here.
I just finished signing up for Plurk. I had never before heard of this Plurk but somehow I couldn’t resist. So now in addition to Twitter, Pownce, FriendFeed, Brightkite, Vox, Flickr and a few others, I will be there as well. Dude. I am not even active in all of those others. In fact I also just added a new service (Ping.fm) to help me keep them all updated! Of course that doesn’t support them all… I think I need to stop. Heh. Even I am starting to lose track. Does anyone think it’s getting out of control out there?
Twitter is still my favorite though. Poor little busted thing…
This is the post where I was going to post the infamous 12 of 12 meme. Twelve photos on the twelfth day. I have been wanting to do it for months. Literally. But I always forget. This time was different…
I tried. I actually remembered, thanks to Brian. I was off work, so I went around and did interesting things. I took photos. Somehow I totally missed the part where you have to also note the time. By the time I figured out how to do find the time of a photo (it’s a really tiny bit of info I only get within iPhoto, which I didn’t use at all after getting the photos to the desktop). Anyhow, by the time I figured all that out it was (is) 12:30 at night. I have an early dentist appointment. Clearly this meme and I were not meant to be. And to be frank, looking at how much time was spent today futzing with the camera there is NO way I could do it on a workday. I am at work far too long to get photos, and I unfortunately would find myself fired if I photographed my place of work and put it online.
So yeah. I am bummed and oddly relieved. At least I tried it once, right? Right?
The Decapitator via In4mador. Ew. But funny.
Well, I have to say. I think the post-holiday Holiday Party was a success. At one point we had 14 people. Fourteen. In my house. I have never had that many people over in all my life. But what a way to close out the season and ring in the New Year! All of our new friends, some we’ve had for a while, and some that have become like family gathered together like that. It was a blast. Thank you to all that attended. It meant a lot to us. And I love that I can say that there were guys making out on the stairs at my party! Makes it sound really wild, eh? Heh, it just sounds that way. It was a very classy event! I just wish I had taken pictures. There are tons that our friend Sheila took. As soon as I get copies I’ll put them on the Flickr.
Today we have been removing the holiday trim and tree. That is a big ass job! There were a lot of balls on that thing, let me tell you! Of course there is glitter everywhere. I have swept, washed, vacuumed, and wiped. I can still see red sparkles out of the corner of my eye… But the war on glitter will have to wait. My body has finally given in to this cold. I thought I was coming out of it, but today is another story. I am so glad I didn’t get drunk last night or I swear I’d be dead right now. A hang over with this sinus mess? No thanks…
Okay, time to curl up with some tea and a movie.
UPDATE: Got a few shots onto the Flickr.
Christmas time is almost done. I am soooo excited. Do I even have to tell you? Heh. So excited.
I actually had a nice holiday. Christmas eve we had nibbley things and hung out at the house. We toasted the end of the holiday shopping season with champagne! We watched A Christmas Story. I love that stupid movie! Then the next day we slept in, as I mentioned. I baked up some naughty treats for breakfast. Did a few chores. Oh, come on! I know chores on Christmas kinda sucks… But we had been working the past 7 days!! So anyhoo, after that business was done we got all pretty to meet the girls for Christmas Lunch. (It’s not just lunch that day, it’s got to be Christmas Lunch.) Good thing we dressed up too. You should see how gorgeous the gals looked… In fact you can, on my Flickr! So it was me and my Richard, Sheila, and her two lovely daughters having a holiday meal outside at the waterfront Marriott on Coronado Island. On Christmas. With a view of downtown. Can you even? I love living in San Diego.
Today was a harsh shove back into reality as I once again returned to work. But really it was fine. Still, I cannot wait till my long weekend.
cheery
Brunch today was at The Top of the Market. It is a fancier version of The Fish Market. In fact it is right upstairs of the Tuna Harbor location. I love a champagne brunch on Sunday! Especially with our crazy group. Notorious (to borrow a phrase), all of them. Just like Tori. Heh.
But the reason I post this is because we were near this very famous statue…
Unconditional Surrender, a 25-foot, 6,000 pound statue by world-renowned artist J. Seward Johnson commemorating a famous World War II photo was unveiled Feb. 10 at Mole Park in San Diego. Unconditional Surrender is a three-dimensional interpretation of a photo taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt of a Sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square, New York City on Aug. 14, 1945, following the announcement of V-J Day…. Unconditional Surrender was previously displayed in New York City in 2005 and Sarasota, Fla. in 2006. The statue made its way here, and will stand at the G Street Mole Park for duration of 2007 before traveling to its next home. The statue is owned by the Sculpture Foundation of Santa Monica, Calif., and is on loan to the Port of San Diego.
Apparently it is the place to get your photo taken. Lot’s of couples were mimicking the pose, all romantic. There are a bunch of shots on Flickr by various people. You get the idea…
Then there is our version:
Sometimes I like to go over to the Flickr and look at other peoples photos. We all do. It’s fun to be a voyeur like that sometimes. That’s why the site is so great! I like to look at the families, the older photos as well as the artsy shots. I think the shots with people are more interesting on Flickr. Who’s cute, who’s not… I like to make up little stories in my mind about the people that posed so well, or so awkwardly. It can be quite entertaining. But sometimes a trip into Flickr land can be quite jolting.
Take for instance my experience just last week. There I was cruising the blogs, like we all do. I was led to a Flickr link to something that came up as a warning due to a Safe Search preference. The photo in question was something with folks at a bar event. Nothing nasty. Lawd knows there are better places on the ‘net than Flickr for that! But still. I had never asked for this Safe Search business so I looked into it. I soon found it and shut it off. Is it new? I dunno. It was new to me. So of course I had to make sure it was off. I searched for something dirty…
Yes I know there are better places on the internets for things like that! I think I just covered that. I am trying to tell a story here!!
I actually typed in “penis” in the search field. Just to see. Kinda adolescent, sure, but remember I just was trying to establish that there were no longer limits on my search. Well it turns out that there aren’t that many penises on the Flickr. At least not tagged that way. But the first one I found led me into the most horrific group of photos I have ever seen. You know how sometimes on Flickr you can read the set title better than you can see the thumbnails? Well when the title has to do with destroyed body parts of any kind do not click through. For me at that moment it was too late. It was like that car accident you drove by and couldn’t look away from.
