Furnishing A Home
money spentwhat's up?

OMG. I haven’t posted all day. Weird. I have to say though, today was kinda off. It started normal enough, day off, gym time, shopping, ect. But I still have to say overall today kinda sucked. I hate arguing. It totally wrecks my mojo.

Tomorrow the final phase of furniture comes in. After this the house is officially full. No more furnishing will be possible. No more room. We have a chair in every possible corner. Or a couch. Whatever is appropriate. Heheheh. That’s right, the recliners Richard ordered will finally be delivered. Those are for the sitting room off the kitchen. The chairs from there are to be split up. One goes into the office, for 2 person computer viewing. The other up into the master bedroom, completing the new look.

I am officially afraid of how much stuff we own. We will never fit into an apartment again.. Scary. I feel so grown up old.

Thoughts On Furniture Delivery…
o.c.d.

It seemed like a good idea to go with the ASAP delivery time slot. However, now that I am in the thick of the unavoidable timeline I have to question the decision. Here we are after a long day of work and Richard is upstairs ironing the new comforter set. After he is done I get to move all of the clothes out of the armoire, take it apart and put it outside. Then I have to dust all the decorative crap that we have and will still use into the guest room. Then the furniture pieces get disassembled and stowed in the garage. After that I will do the vacuuming.

Clearly it will be bedtime after that because we have to get up extra early to get the bed stripped and taken apart.

You see how this is going right? Guess what we get to do after work tomorrow and the new stuff is here? Yep. If you guessed put it all back together again and vacuum the whole house after the delivery guys stomp in and out you win the gold star!

But I am not complaining. I am lucky to get new furniture! But the planning yo. It needs work next time.

Did I Make It?
what's up?

Hmmm. Don’t know yet. I have to say, I hate missing a day. Gah! (edit: I made it… look at that time stamp baby!)

So what’s up? Well…

Tomorrow evening we get to come home from work and disassemble our bedroom. Why? Because the new furniture comes on Saturday!! I am pretty excited, but it does suck that this is all happening on our weekend working. So yeah, Friday night we take apart everything but the actual bed and try to squeeze it into the garage. There’s not a lot. The shelves we’ve been using as night stands actually fold. The old retail prop armoire comes apart in fourths, and will probably be reassembled in the garage in front of where I park till we can dispose of it. There is a sofa table we use in leu of a headboard that we’ll pop the legs off of for storage. Then there’s all of the artwork on the walls that will be coming down too. That’s it other than the bed. I will have to prep the new bedding too. Iron the bed skirt and shams, wash the new sheets, blah, blah, blaaah…

But it’ll be nice to finally have everything match. You see, the master bedroom and bath already had a theme when we moved in. It just didn’t go with our stuff. Temporary as our stuff was, it was a look. What we moved into was a whole different look. Heh. Now all the rooms in the house will look “done”. I cannot even wait. And we came in at budget. Maybe even a skosh under. Substantially under what I would have wanted to spend on furniture. We rawk.

It’s Like Work, This Shopping Thing
money spentwhat's up?

For some reason we have decided to finally get bedroom furniture. Not that we don’t have any furniture, we aren’t sleeping on the floor or anything.. but out of all the rooms in our home wherever we have lived, we have not invested any money in the bedroom. Even the guest bedroom is fancier. Well, that isn’t totally true. We did get an amazing mattress and box-springs so that part is good… but the night stands are these weird metal Pier 1 things that fold up. We have no dresser, in fact not a drawer to speak of. All of my clothes are in the guest room. Richard’s are in these Organized Living hanging shelf things in the closet, that take up hanging space, so the balance of our clothes are hanging in the garage. It didn’t used to be like this. When we were up north, all the apartments had tiny bedrooms with enormous walk-in closets. Bedroom furniture was not an issue. But clearly now it is.

So we are looking. There is no urgency to buy, we’ve survived this long… But it is good to get out and figure out what look you want and stuff. Keep watch on prices and stuff, right? So we were scouting out the furniture stores today for the first time in like 6 months or more. Funny, what we are interested in has totally evolved. We used to only like that dark Z Gallerie - Pottery Barn stuff, but today we went totally opposite. We fell in love ith the Tommy Bahama Home collection. Oh my gaaaaawd. It’s wonderful. So perfect for our room. AND soooo expensive. Like really expensive. Damn!

But now we know what ‘look’ we want, right? Then you go out and find it for less? Right?

Why am I not convinced?

Do you know that with the Tommy Bahama dresser there is a little metal plate in each drawer with the Tommy Bahama logo? And a false bottom drawer for you to keep your secrets?? I love those little touches. Sigh. I need a better job yo.
