The origin of Black Friday comes from the shift to profitability during the holiday season. Black Friday was when retailers went from being unprofitable, or “in the red,” to being profitable, or “in the black”, at a time when accounting records were kept by hand and red indicated loss and black profit.
Also known as the day after Thanksgiving. (source)
Yep. The fact that I am writing this just goes to show I survived. One of the most painless Black Fridays yet, I think. We were well staffed and had procedures in place to handle twice the business we did. I love a successful day. Now I’m at home with my delicious leftovers as a snack.
Speaking of the food… I had one of the best Thanksgivings ever. We were both off on Wednesday. The original plan had us wine tasting, but that didn’t work out. We had had a piece of glass for our dining table to get home from the Pier 1 that we ended up renting a truck for. Yep. One thing I’m thankful for is the delightful woman at our local Budget. Anyway, that ordeal took up most of the morning. We ended up doing some errands. I found a glass cake plate with a dome at Target for only ten dollars! I’m so thankful for Target! Next it was cocktails at the Chevy’s. They always treat us right. Another thing to be thankful for: Chevy’s margaritas. While we were there I thought Richard should try to call the furniture repair guy. He had tried to schedule with us for that day, but we had pushed it back, thinking we’d be, you know, wine tasting. It turns out that not only was the guy available, but would meet us at home in twenty minutes. MY COUCH IS FIXED! I cannot tell you how thankful I am for that! Now we can enjoy the good TV, which we did all day on Thursday.
Richard made the most amazing meal. A beautiful, somewhat spicy turkey that was amazing, mashed potatoes, gravy (jarred), cranberry sauce (canned), and of course green bean casserole. While he worked on that there was brie and crackers, and some spinach cheese dip. We spent the afternoon eating and watching movies. Oh, and drinking. There were no guests, no family, and no drama or stress.
The best Thanksgiving ever.

Glad you survived Black Friday - - and that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving
