Okay, consider this one of many “cat posts”. Yes, I am now “that crazy cat guy”. I can’t help it. My little Versace is precious! This little critter has me spellbound. Her every move is hypnotic…
Anyhoo, so I had spent all afternoon with her. Bonding and all that good stuff, but also training. I had almost gotten her to stop the biting-scratching play that kittens do when practicing fighting. I was using tips I had read online, as well as things that the pet store gal had told me. I really do not want a scratching problem. Especially since *from what I read* there MAY be a connection between declawing and peeing out of the box. Now I don’t claim to know the how or why, but if someone took the time to compile such information there “could” be a tiny bit of truth to it. So if that means I could spend a few minutes a day re-enforcing using the scratching post versus my hands, the couch, and the comforter then I am willing to give it a go. It’s worth it to me to never have litter box issues. We have six months
till declawing anyway. Can’t hurt to try…
But like I was saying before going off on my tangent, tonight all was for naught. As soon as Richard came home he “played” with the cat. As he should! It is our pet after all. But it was *how* he played. Now
she is a biting-scratching mess again. Everything we did today is lost.
I don’t claim to know anything about cats. Richard’s cats turned out fine. More than fine. They are the cats that made me a “cat person”. I love those cats. I still cry when I remember Chanel and how he was my lap cat. However, we did have box issues. And if I remember correctly it was post-declawing. So if my online research can help with this kitten I am all for it. But I can’t do it alone. And not playing with her (as one might threaten to do when disagreeing with limits) is no help at all either. We need to be equal parents and on the same page regarding rules and disipline.
Just like Nanny Jo Jo on Supernanny says. EVERY WEEK.
